I would NOT like to lend my support to LS's argument...
Admittedly, the anime's 人设 is better than that in the game. However, if you haven't played the game yet, how can you tell the difference? Moreover, the horrible 人设 in the game can enhance the beauty in the anime. In the second place, the 剧情 is more 完整 in the game. If you want to have a proper overview of Clannad, you should play the game rather than the anime.
At the end of the day, a conclusion can be made: although the anime has better 人设, the game should be played at first.
